Ikorodu has lost a prominent son and former Vice Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB), Professor Nurudeen Olorunimbe Adedipe
Prof. Adedipe who served as the pioneer VC of UNAAB from January 1, 1988 died at the age of 84.
THE IMPACT gathered that he died Wednesday, November 13, 2023.
The late scholar also served as acting VC, University of Ibadan on many occasions and he was Chairman, Governing Council, Lagos State Polytechnic (now Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH)
He was one of the founders of the Ikorodu Division Human Resource Development Group (IDRDG)
Brief Profile:
Professor Nurudeen Olorunnimbe Adedipe is a Professor of Plant Physiology and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta. He was born in Ikorodu on 20th December 1940.
He went to Ibadan Boy’s High School, Ibadan between 1954 and 1958. He later enrolled in the School of Agriculture, Ibadan from 1959 to 1962, for his post-secondary education. Professor Adedipe had a burning desire for first class academic excellence. He then went to the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada, from 16th September 1964 to 30th April 1966, for his undergraduate studies where he obtained a first class standing in all courses.
He went further for his post-graduate degree in 1966, but was later promoted directly to read for his Ph.D due to his outstanding performance. Apart from this, Professor Adedipe’s extensive reading has earned him several academic and professional certificates.
Professor Adedipe’s place in history is also expressed in his administrative skill. He was appointed at the University of Ibadan on August 1st, 1972, as a lecturer Grade 1. He was later promoted Senior Lecturer and Professor on the 1st October 1973 and 1st October respectively. As a reward for his roles, he was given major administrative posts including Head of the Department of Agriculture Biology; Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry; Chairman Committee of Deans, a position that qualified him to act as Vice- Chancellor on many occasions. He was also chairman, Unibadan Agricultural Enterprises, Management Board; Chairman, Governing Council of the Lagos State Polytechnic and later as the Vice- Chancellor at University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
Professor Nurudeen Olorunnimbe Adedipe demonstrated his skill as a good administrator of the top most order.
In addition to his outstanding administrative excellence, Professor Adedipe is also a renowned author. He has published a number of books and articles which are used nationally and internationally. He wrote his Ph.D thesis on, Growth, Mineral up-take and phosphorus metabolism of pisumspatium (1969), and also wrote “Plant Growth Regulators Chemicals in Plant Agriculture; (1971) among other series of monograph.
Some of his articles in learned journals incude “Response of Pea Plants to Soil and Foliar Application of Cycocel”; Plant Growth Regulators Retardation and Phosphorus Metabolism” and other articles.
Professor Adedipe was an outstanding Nigerian academic and administrators of note.
